Ahead of the G7 Summit this week, the US and UK announced a new taskforce would examine the options for reopening travel between the two countries as soon as possible.
The announcement follows a joint letter signed by trade associations, airlines and airports, including ADS, calling for the important travel route to be reopened.
ADS Interim Chief Executive Kevin Craven said:
“Today’s agreement between the US President and UK Prime Minister to work to restore travel connections between the two countries as soon as possible is a welcome step towards the reopening of one of the world’s most important aviation routes.
“The deep economic, social and cultural ties between the UK and US, means that reconnecting the two countries will play a vital role in our national economic recovery from the crisis.
“The successful vaccination programmes in both countries provide a solid foundation for robust and resilient measures that can enable travel without the need for quarantine or isolation after arrival.”
