David Cameron opened the Farnborough International Airshow yesterday in what will be remembered as one of his final duties as Prime Minister. He was joined by Sir Richard Branson who signed a deal with Airbus for 12 Airbus A350s.

In total, 191 orders were announced for civil aircraft across the show, totalling £12bn – worth £2.5bn to the UK aerospace industry.

Paul Everitt, CEO of ADS Group said: “The Farnborough International Airshow is where the global aerospace and aviation industry comes to meet and do business. The orders on the first day of the show are good news for the UK economy.

“I was delighted the Prime Minister was able to open our show and demonstrate the Government's continued support for the industry.”

About the A350 XWB:

  • The Airbus North Factory in Broughton, North Wales assembles all of the A350’s composite wings supporting around 1,000 high value and highly skilled jobs in the process (including designers in Filton, Bristol).
  •  Rolls-Royce is the sole engine supplier for the A350, with the Trent XWB. The engine represents an investment of more than £1bn in R&D development costs.
  • UK companies supply a range of parts and components into the programme including landing gear, fuel pumps, engine health monitoring equipment, cargo nets, ovens, fridges and actuation systems for thrust reversers.
