Remaining part of the EU is better for UK companies and their employees

On 23rd June, voters will go to the polls across the nation to decide whether the UK remains in the EU. Either way ADS believe that the national result will have significant, long-term local impacts.

A number of ADS members – including Airbus, BAE Systems, Bombardier, GKN, MBDA and Rolls-Royce – which between them employ more than 65,000 nationally – have communicated with their employees to explain the reasons why they believe remaining in the EU is best for their business.

Although their businesses are different, there are many reasons why they want to remain in the EU, some of which include:

·         Maintaining UK access to EU customers and suppliers free of tariffs and red tape.

·         Exerting UK influence over the standards and regulations that shape our industries.

·         Securing investment in UK R&D, skills and supply chains

They are not alone in thinking that remaining in the EU provides access, influence and investment; and leaving it provides only uncertainty, reduced influence and, over time, less investment in the UK.

Regardless of size or sector, 70 per cent of ADS members said in a recent survey that remaining in the EU was better for their business.

Nigel Stein, CEO of GKN says: “Membership of the EU gives us complete access to the world’s largest single market. This brings investment to the UK which supports jobs and growth. Leaving the EU would put this all at risk”.

Paul Everitt, CEO of ADS Group says: “In the days that remain, we hope that all businesses in the UK encourage their employees to vote and allow them the time do so. We would also urge them to speak to their staff on how the UK’s membership of the EU benefits their business and their employees.

“Regardless of their vote, we want all voters to be informed on how this important national decision will impact local businesses and jobs.”
