On Tuesday BAE Systems confirmed its £5bn deal to supply nine Hawk trainers and 24 Typhoons to Qatar has become effective.
Originally signed in December 2017, the contract was amended in June this year to include the supply of additional Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft together with an initial support package. The first payment received by the company on 18 September brings this contract into force.
Qatar is the ninth country to purchase the Typhoon, and first deliveries of the aircraft are expected in 2022.
ADS Chief Executive Paul Everitt said:
“This major contract sees another new international customer choosing the Typhoon in a £5bn deal that will make a valuable contribution to the UK’s national security and prosperity.
“The UK is a world leader in combat aerospace and today’s announcement is great news for the skilled BAE Systems workforce in Warton and Brough who will deliver these aircraft, and for companies in the supply chain.”
