The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) publishes its report on Ministry of Defence (MoD) procurement today, calling for UK suppliers to be supported in counteracting any negative impact from Brexit.
Defence and security sector trade association ADS said it strongly agrees with the recommendation that MoD should support UK suppliers in their efforts to export and build relationships with new international partners.
ADS Chief Executive Paul Everitt said:
“The UK is home to a defence industry worth more than £23bn a year, making a substantial contribution to both prosperity and national security.
“As we prepare to leave the EU, the Government must enlist the expertise available across all its Departments to support the UK’s defence suppliers at home and overseas.
“There is an opportunity to develop a new approach to defence procurement where quality of service and domestic benefit are more clearly taken into account. This must focus on developing a closer long-term partnership between the Government and industry.
“The recent launch of the Modernising Defence Programme and steps to develop a Combat Air Strategy are positive moves and we look forward to working closely with the Government as they progress.”
