Paris Air Show: UK Pavilion Roundup - Day 1

Great news for UK industry from the Paris Airshow today: 425 deals totalling £34bn have been announced across the show, which will be worth £5.5bn to UK companies.

The UK’s aerospace sector is the largest in Europe with an annual turnover of £29.2bn. Today’s orders for Single Aisle and Widebody Aircraft mean that businesses throughout the supply chain will see the benefit of the orders and commitments made on the first day of the show.

Breakdown

  • Regional aircraft* = 143 deals - worth between £200m – 300m to UK industry.
  • Single Aisle = 182 deals – worth between £1 – 1.2bn to UK industry.
  • Widebody = 100 deals – worth between £3.6 – 4bn to UK Industry.

Paul Everitt, CEO of aerospace trade organisation ADS Group says: “The global aerospace community is gathered in Paris this week, and UK companies are leading the competition for work that will come about as a result of the multi-billion pound deals announced.” 

“The UK’s aerospace sector is in a strong position with figures showing that it has delivered another year of growth. The challenge for industry remains securing the necessary investment in growth, so that it can continue to drive productivity and meet the increasing global demand for new aircraft.”

One of the most significant orders includes a letter of intent for thirty Airbus A350s which, if converted into a firm order, could be worth up to £2.9bn to UK industry.

Also announced at today’s show was Cobham’s introduction of a new Electric Propulsion Xenon Regulator to the satellite industry. Cobham’s advanced higher flow Xenon regulator allows commercial satellites to start generating revenue sooner by reaching orbit in less time than traditional electric propulsion systems that are limited by a lower flow capacity.

Meanwhile, Dunlop Aircraft Tyres made two announcements: as well as being selected to provide tyres for an all new turboprop regional airliner being developed by Chinese manufacturer AVIC Aircraft Xi’an Branch, they also published news of a three-year deal to support Garuda Indonesia’s fleet of Bombardier CRJ1000.

 

*Regional aircraft have fewer than 100 seats.
