More than 70 apprentices from some of the UK’s leading aerospace, defence, security and space companies attended the ADS parliamentary reception in the House of Commons yesterday afternoon. They were joined by more than 60 parliamentarians including Business Secretary Sajid Javid; Skills Minister Nick Boles, and Security Minister John Hayes.

The reception was hosted by Emma Reynolds MP, who chaired the aerospace all-party group in the last parliament, and sponsored by UTC Aerospace Systems.

Nick Boles MP, commented: “Investing in apprenticeships is an investment in our country’s future and we will create 3 million by 2020. Apprenticeships inspire young people to fly high and achieve their potential, whether it is to be an aerospace engineer or a project manager.

“By boosting apprenticeships we are ensuring that the aerospace, defence, security and space industries has the skills they need to boost productivity.”

The reception celebrated the valuable contribution apprentices are making to important, high-skill manufacturing industries, and highlighted the world-leading technologies that many of the apprentices are working to develop.

Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of ADS Group commented:

“Our high-skill sectors are reliant on a new generation of talented and well-trained employees. In return they look set to enjoy rewarding careers within some of the UK’s most successful and exciting industries.

“The Apprenticeship Levy announced in last week’s Budget, must encourage greater investment in high quality apprenticeships and all the monies raised must be dedicated to supporting those companies offering high quality schemes.”
