Aircraft delivery data shows a record first six months for 2015

Figures for aircraft deliveries, released today by leading trade body ADS Group, show a record-breaking six months for the aerospace industry with rates up by six per cent on the same time last year.
The record output is fed through to strong export growth with a six per cent rise in UK aerospace exports for the start of the year; a clear indication that companies are investing to meet global demand by growing productivity.
Exports generate 91 per cent of turnover for the UK’s aerospace industry, enabling companies to invest in the R&D and skills that increase productivity. UK aerospace exports to Europe have grown by 60 per cent in the past five years, while exports to the rest of the world including North America, China and the Middle East are up by 40 per cent.
Paul Everitt, CEO of ADS Group says: “The UK aerospace industry is helping to meet increasing global demand for new aircraft. The first half of 2015 has seen a record number of new aircraft produced, adding an extra £2billion of value for the UK economy compared to 2014 levels.
“The UK aerospace industry has seen its productivity rise by 50 per cent during the last five years and this improvement is helping to maintain UK market share despite intense competition from established and emerging aerospace economies.
“Today’s figures demonstrate that Government and Industry’s long-term approach to investment and partnership are delivering for the UK.”
During the first half of 2015, 685 new aircraft – almost four a day - rolled off the global production line, equating to around £11bn to the national economy, a rise of £2bn compared with last year. These levels of delivery are the highest for the first six months of any year.
The current backlog for aircraft stands at 12,868 equating to nine years work-in-hand. Record levels of demand for single-aisle aircraft is driving the backlog, with 10,183 currently on order.
