The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), a key initiative of the Aerospace Growth Partnership, has launched its 2015 strategy.

The strategy lays out how investments into research and development within aerospace should be focussed on a market opportunity. In addition to identifying opportunities, the strategy provides intelligence on where technology can deliver answers; stimulating collaborative research and development that will translate into products which secure economic returns for the UK.

Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of ADS Group sad: “The Aerospace Growth Partnership is a game-changing approach and helping the UK aerospace industry compete and win in tough international markets.”

“The ATI and its technology strategy is making the UK a more attractive location for high value R&D, keeping UK industry at the leading edge of technology development and boosting productivity throughout the supply chain.

“The Government’s long-term support for the ATI gives industry the confidence to invest in the skills, innovation and supply chains that will sustain growth and generate prosperity across the UK.”

The strategy was launched along with an independently commissioned report by Fathom Consulting: ‘How Government can make a difference: the potential impact of the ATI on the UK economy.’  The report cites productivity as the number one challenge for macroeconomic policy in the UK and outlines how, through focussed investment in R&D and innovation, the ATI can make a difference to the sector.

The report makes clear the correlation between an increase in R&D with an increase in productivity, and highlights the importance of a creating a culture of innovation across the sector.

In addition to identifying critical technology themes, the ATI will achieve higher levels of economic impact by aligning technology research with a long-term strategic view for the UK; using ATI projects to create stronger UK-based networks and developing the UK’s research infrastructure.
