Studsvik and Darchem to collaborate on nuclear containment and HVAC

The companies announced their association by jointly Headline Sponsoring the IMechE Nuclear Ventilation Seminar in Haydock, in November 2015.



Studsvik’s UK Consultancy Services division has experts located within their offices throughout the UK. The specialist services available include engineering (containment ventilation), HVAC, decommissioning, implementation and commissioning capabilities as well as waste management consultancy services specifically tailored to meet the needs of the nuclear market.

Darchem Engineering is a subsidiary of the quoted US Company Esterline and is based in Stillington, Stockton-On-Tees. Darchem has recognised the significance of the potential opportunities in both nuclear new build and decommissioning and has invested in a purpose designed £8M facility specifically to accommodate fabrications for the nuclear industry.  Recent success has been the award of a £50M contract from Sellafield for over 1000 Duplex Intermediate Level Waste containers.  Darchem also has significant experience of manufacturing exhaust and ventilation products for other markets including hilighly regulated industries such as oil and gas and aerospace. As a result their nuclear experience and manufacturing pedigree are a perfect fit with Studsvik’s design and engineering capabilities. 
 
The collaboration between Studsvik and Darchem will enable the companies to offer a complete engineering solution to the marketplace, encompassing design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of nuclear ventilation solutions, hence offering customers the opportunity to procure all of their engineering, hardware and installation needs from one source. This will ensure that customers can reduce unnecessary interfaces between multiple supplier organisations, giving real benefits to the customer in terms of quality, costs and lead time.
