Sir Martin Donnelly appointed President Boeing Europe and MD UK and Ireland
Boeing today announced the appointment of Sir Martin Donnelly as the President of Boeing Europe and Managing Director of Boeing United Kingdom and Ireland (effective 15th July), succeeding Sir Michael Arthur, who was promoted to President of Boeing International in March, becoming the first non-American to sit on the companys Executive Council. “Europe – and the UK and Ireland in particular – are strategically important partners for Boeing,” said Sir Michael. “We will look to Martin to build on the tremendous work of the Boeing team across the region where we have achieved significant recent growth in our business, our presence, supplier base, research and development operations and our employee numbers, which now exceed 5,000.”
Sir Martin (right) will work to expand further Boeing’s local presence and pursue new growth opportunities as the senior Boeing representative in Europe and the UK and Ireland.
He will lead the company’s European strategy and operations to drive business growth through strengthened regional alignment and improved operating efficiencies.
Additionally, in a second role, he will be responsible for coordinating all Boeing business activities in the UK and Ireland, working from the Boeing UK offices in central London.
The leaders of Boeing France, Boeing Benelux & Nordics, Boeing Germany and Central/Eastern Europe, Boeing Italy and Southern Europe and Boeing Brussels will report through Donnelly, who joins the company after more than three decades of government service in the UK and two years as a senior business advisor and lecturer. “Martin brings to this role immense experience in British and international government affairs from his time in government service as well as valuable experience with the private and not-for-profit sectors,” said Sir Michael. “He will continue to build our presence and collaboration with our partners, customers, employees and communities across the region.”
Donnelly served as Permanent Secretary at the Department for International Trade and Permanent Secretary at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills where he was central to designing and driving agreement on the recent UK industrial strategy, agreed by successive governments.
Other notable positions during his career include Director General Europe and Globalisation at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Deputy Head at the Cabinet Office European Secretariat, Team Leader for European Economic issues at HM Treasury, two years with the French Finance Ministry in Paris, and secondment to the UK Commissioner at the European Commission in Brussels. From 2017 to 2018, he was a senior adviser to Teneo Consulting and has lectured at the London Business School, Oxford, Cambridge and Glasgow Universities, Chatham House, London School of Economics, King’s College, London and the Institute for Government.
