Initial cooperation will focus on markets where both companies already have common customers to offer a more integrated service. Future developments could see the firms working together to open up markets where one partner or the other has a more established presence.

EWOS is the combination of mission support tools, people, specialized training and infrastructures that allows operators to get the most benefit out of their of electronic warfare systems. Every Selex ES electronic warfare product comes bundled with a core support package.

Selex ES has already provided such facilities to different export countries, based on years of experience working with the UK Ministry of Defence. Potential future customers could include those countries selecting Saab’s aircraft.

Selex ES are already strategic partner to Saab in a number of areas of defence and security. Notably, to date, all contracted Saab Gripen Next Generation (NG) fighters will carry the Selex ES Raven ES05 AESA radar, Skyward-G IRST (Infrared Search & Track) passive sensor and IFF (Identification Friend-or-Foe) systems, with the Swedish company also being the first to offer Selex ES’s new BriteCloud expendable active decoy (above) as an electronic warfare option.

Under the new agreement, the two firms will work together to identify opportunities for developing partnered EWOS solutions, providing customers with a sovereign support capability. This new collaboration is further evidence of the Finmeccanica company becoming the international partner of choice in the provision of electronic warfare facilities.

Selex ES has a dedicated site in Lincoln, UK, that offers all aspects of electronic warfare support for the company’s international and UK-based customers.
