Andrew (above) succeeds Gardaworld’s Andrew Farquhar in leading this special interest group within ADS, which was formed in January 2011 to define, develop and facilitate robust, internationally recognised professional standards for the UK Private Security Sector operating abroad.

Andrew Varney is currently the MD of a leading maritime security company, Port2Port Maritime Security Ltd. He said, “The Security in Complex Environments Group (SCEG) is a very important representative for the UK security industry and has demonstrated commendable leadership in partnering with UK Government for the greater good of the land and maritime security sectors.

“Synonymous with transparency and targeted focus on major issues of tangible importance, SCEG is respected and recognised domestically and internationally as the pivotal entity in the development of best practice and good governance within the sector. As the new Chairman I look forward to further supporting SCEG as it continues to deliver value added benefits to its membership as the “go to” portal for guidance and information pan industry.”

Paul Gibson, Director of SCEG said: “This is great news for SCEG and its members. Much has been achieved in a very short time by SCEG in developing standards and regulations for the industry. Andrew Varney has been at the forefront of these developments and particularly the implementation of a maritime standard with rigorous third party accreditation. Andrew has been a strong supporter of SCEG, more recently as an active member of the Executive Committee, from which he has been elected as the new Chairman.”
