In light of continued passenger demand, LLA is currently undergoing a £110m development project to increase annual capacity from 12 million to 18 million.

Works already completed include a relocated and expanded security search area featuring the latest screening technology, the £1million refurbishment of the executive lounge and the airport has also benefitted from major improvements to junction 10a of the M1. This month will also see improved rail services commence with the addition of overnight trains between St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway.

Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “Twenty months of consecutive growth at LLA shows that demand in the South East and in LLA is at record levels. Whilst the decision to build a new runway has been delayed the need for more sustainable capacity hasn’t, that’s why we’ve already begun our £110million redevelopment increasing capacity from 12m to 18m – 2016 will be an exciting year for us as the transformation takes shape.”
