Scheduled to open in 2021, the £225 million Luton DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit) is part of the airport’s transformation programme to deliver a world-class passenger experience.

The joint venture between VolkerFitzpatrick and Kier looks to provide a step-change in how passengers get to and from the airport.

The Luton DART will be a double-shuttle, fully automated people-mover based on the latest system technology and design innovations; and will transport travellers from Luton Airport Parkway Station to the terminal in under four minutes. The energy efficient, environmentally friendly cable-driven shuttle will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Prater’s scope of works will include a feature metalwork package, parasol canopies, metal cladding, louvres and bespoke glazing. Key supply chain partners working on this  project include Kawneer and Sika Sarnafil.

“We’re thrilled to have been appointed for this project,” says Karl Moxon, Sales and Estimating Manager at Prater. “This new state-of-the-art DART will benefit airport passengers for years to come. Our extensive experience in delivering large complex projects in both the aviation and the rail sectors will allow us to overcome the unique challenges and complexities of the project, where construction works will have to be sympathetic to this environment”

Luton DART is scheduled to open in Autumn 2021.
