Police cadets learn about Stansted Airport safety and security
Volunteer Police Cadets from Basildon, Essex, took their roles to new heights recently when they spent the day at Stansted Airport to learn more about the specialist teams based there that work round the clock to keep the airport safe and secure.
The team visited Stansted Airport on Saturday 30th March 30, where they learned more about the specialist policing teams at the airport as well as our other emergency services colleagues in fire and ambulance.
The cadets met with PC Fiona Clements and PC Darren Potts who are based at Stansted Airport and are the leads for Project Servator in Stansted Airport. They told the cadets all about Project Servator - a national policing operation used in Essex to detect and deter criminality from petty theft to terrorism – and how they can report anything suspicious while on their travels either online (www.essex.police.uk/doitonline) or by calling 101.
Fiona and Darren also gave them an insight into what it’s like to police a busy airport and how they work with different teams at the airport including fire and ambulance.
The team also met with Police Dog Buddy, one half of Essex Police's doggy duo Buddy and Holly and his handler PC Mark Webster to learn how our canine colleagues help to keep passengers and staff safe.
The Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) scheme is a uniformed voluntary youth organisation, supported by the Police, and open to young people aged 13-18 from across the UK’s diverse communities, irrespective of their background or financial circumstances, and including those vulnerable to crime or social exclusion.
