Paragon doubles its CNC capacity

Rapid prototyping bureau, Paragon Rapid Technologies, has expanded its dedicated CNC facility with the addition of two new machining centres.

A 5-Axis HAAS UMC-750 and a 3-Axis HAAS SUPER MINIMILL 2 will complement its existing capabilities and double capacity for the production of machined components.

Its range of 3- and 5-Axis CNC mills allow the efficient machining of parts with multiple features in a reduced number of steps, saving both manufacturing time and part cost. Paragon uses CNC machined metal and plastic parts for prototype production, as well as for low volume batch manufacture for end use applications.

Paragon Commercial Director, Ian Jobling, commented: “The addition of the new machines will support the growth of our Engineering facility, including the manufacture of our own range of Jigs and Fixtures. It’s an exciting time for Paragon, as we look to develop into new markets and discover new applications for our well established and successful production technologies.”

The investment has also driven another round of recruitment for County Durham-based Paragon, with experienced CNC Programmer, Alan Mason recently joining the team.

In addition, Paragon Rapid Technologies is continuing to invest in state of art manufacturing technology. As part of the company’s ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System, the installation of a portable, high-precision 3D measurement device from FARO will allow the County-Durham based Bureau to maintain its superior product quality through digital verification, as it continues to strive for operational excellence across all departments.

Paragon has appointed dedicated Faro Arm Technician, Dominic Cockburn, to support the increasing demand for 3D Scanning projects. Using the new equipment, Dominic will generate 3D CAD data for clients, reverse engineer existing components and provide comprehensive validation reports. The new equipment will also support the design and manufacture of Paragon’s own range of customised jigs and fixtures, including Nesting Jigs, Alignment jigs and Holding or Assembly Fixtures. Where parts need to be measured, inspected or checked against original specification, it also offers a range of sight gauges, gap and flush gauges and Go-No Go Gauges.

Alongside the recent addition of its 5-Axis CNC machining centre and increased staffing levels, the new 3D Scanning equipment is the latest investment in Paragon’s extensive Engineering facility.
