Winners were awarded with a commemorative plaque at an exclusive awards ceremony on Wednesday evening at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, a Grade II listed historic building in Birmingham’s Chamberlain Square, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary.

The awards evening also marked the launch of The Manufacturer
Top 100 2015 report, sponsored by Autodesk, BDO and Lloyds Bank.  The project aims to dispel myths surrounding manufacturing and provide a platform to champion and publicly identify dynamic leaders and innovators in the sector.

Peter Smith (above) used the occasion to make a pledge to invest further in apprenticeships at Nasmyth Group, building on the company’s existing Nasmyth Academy, which was formally launched in January 2015.  Currently, apprentices represent some 10% of the Group’s total workforce and it is envisaged that this will increase in line with a growing demand across all areas of the Group’s activities.

After the ceremony, Peter Smith said: “It’s a great personal honour to have been named as one of the 100 top industry innovators in this prestigious report and I am grateful for the on-going support of everyone at Nasmyth Group. There’s a real need to raise the profile of our sector across the UK, and to highlight the scope for achievement that it offers people of all ages.”

Founded by Peter Smith in 2003, Nasmyth Group has grown to become a leading global supplier of precision engineering products and services. The company has expanded to some 10 times its original size and now comprises 14 customer-orientated, precision engineering businesses located in the UK, US and India.  Nasmyth Group serves a wide range of global markets, including aerospace, defence, energy, medical, specialist automotive, marine and space.
