Met Office wins AOA 'Best Service Provider' award
The Met Office Aviation team has won the Airport Operators Association (AOA) 'Best Service Provider' category award for their OpenRunway online weather forecasting and alerting product.

The award recognises the way in which the Met Office worked to the customer’s requirements, improving the existing product and the persistent effort to further enhance their offering.
Chief Executive of the Airport Operators Association (AOA), Darren Caplan said: “The AOA Awards showcase the best in the aviation and airport sectors. The 2016 winners demonstrate the vibrant and innovative work going on across the UK and Ireland, improving efficiency, reducing the impact of aviation on the environment and delivering an ever-improving passenger experience. Congratulations to them all.”
Ian Cameron, Exec Head of Aviation at the Met Office added: “The team are delighted to accept this award in recognition of the way they worked. This is a great example of how we combine our technical and scientific excellence with a detailed understanding of customers to add value to airports of all sizes across the UK.”
Software development consultancy Purple Secure Systems were involved in the development of OpenRunway. Dave Balderstone, Head of Capability at Purple Secure Systems commented: “As part of a Met Office cross-site agile team, Purple have enjoyed delivering software for the refresh of several aviation products, with a strong focus on user needs. We are very pleased that the Met Office have received recognition for their latest aviation product, which we are proud to have developed in partnership with them.”
