Manchester Airport welcomed 2.1 million passengers in March, up 3.8% compared to the same period last year. Above:

The growth at Manchester was driven largely by European traffic as passengers flew off on skiing holidays and short breaks.

In November last year, Manchester Airport celebrated breakinging through the 28 million passengers mark for the first time in its history.

At the beginning of April this year, the airport completed and opened its giant new pier connecting to Terminal 2. The 216m pier – longer than Manchester’s Beetham Tower is tall – will be used by all airlines currently operating out of T2.

To mark the launch, time lapse footage was released showing how the pier has been built from scratch in less than 18 months, along with drone footage captured before the building was opened to the public (see latest ADVANCE videos
