MAEL launches summer 2016 apprenticeship scheme
Having already produced over 700 high calibre engineers, the hugely successful scheme, which is now in its 45th year, is offering 18 apprenticeship positions for this year’s intake.
This highly regarded Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme in Aeronautical Maintenance Engineering will see the successful applicants carry out their theory training at Monarch Aircraft Engineering Training Academy at London Luton Airport and practical training at one of their base maintenance facilities.

The four year scheme is based on the knowledge and practical requirements of the City and Guilds Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Aeronautical Engineering as well as the EASA Part 66 ‘A’ Licence. Both qualifications concentrate heavily on the students gaining excellent hand skills and a rounded understanding of the whole of the aircraft maintenance field.
Successful applicants will initially study the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations at Monarch Aircraft Engineering Training Academy (MAETA) at London Luton Airport. They will also receive theoretical training as part of their studies towards to the EASA Part-66 ‘A’ licence.
From this phase of initial training, apprentices will then relocate to one of MAEL’s maintenance bases where they will complete the various elements that make up the City and Guilds Level 3 Aeronautical Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship (On-Aircraft Maintenance - Category A). Our apprentices will also receive on site practical training working alongside highly skilled mentors, who will pass on essential knowledge and experience.
Minimum entry requirements
Minimum entry level requirements for applicants are to have or be expected to achieve 4 GCSEs at grade A*- C (or equivalent), which will include Maths, English, Science and one practical subject, aged 16 or over, valid UK/EU passport holder with the right to live and work in the UK.
