Over 1.1 million people flew through London Luton Airport (LLA) in April representing a 17% increase in passenger numbers compared with the same month last year.

The latest record month means LLA has catered to over 13 million passengers in the past 12 months, the first time ever that the airport has passed that milestone. April also marked 25 consecutive months of passenger growth at the airport.

Passenger demand in the UK and South East is rising rapidly: LLA saw passenger numbers increase by 17% in 2015. When the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, officially ‘broke ground’ at the airport in January he said its transformation will add to the UK’s reputation for world class aviation infrastructure.

Luton Airport is the only London airport with approved expansion plans and will grow annual capacity by 50% in the next four years, to 18 million passengers per year, helping relieve pressure on airport capacity in the South East, as well as to create jobs and opportunities for people throughout the local area.
