Horizon Technologies appoints new executives

Horizon Technologies has announced the appointment of two new executives, Roberta Rudd, AMP, MBA, as its Head of Strategic Programmes, Horizon Space Technologies and James Masey as Director of Business Development, Horizon Aerospace Technologies.

Roberta Rudd has 20 years of experience working in the Space Industry which gained her an in-depth understanding of the UK and international Space sectors.

Roberta has senior experience in the private sector includes leading distinguished projects for companies such as Airbus Defence and Space, Honeywell, Surrey Satellites Technology Ltd, and the Satellite Applications Catapult. Her proven track record of winning major proposals for customers internationally and delivering multi-million-pound programmes are highlights of her achievements to date, including the successful delivery of the HOTBIRD 9 Payload in Kourou (French Guiana), in 2010.

Her competence in the space private business brought her to the UK Government in 2019, working for the Department for International Trade’s (DIT), informing policymaking, growing exports in the UK Space sector and attracting foreign direct investment.

She holds a bachelor’s degree BSc (Hons) in Manufacturing System Engineering and French from the University of Hertfordshire and an Executive MBA from the University of Portsmouth. Roberta is AMP PMQ Qualified and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI).

James Masey, Director of Business Development, Horizon Aerospace Technologies

Within the Aerospace, Defence & Security (ADS) sector James Masey has spent the past 15 years focused on business development/sales and campaign management primarily covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (MEA); also, Australasia and the United States of America.

Prior to joining Horizon Technologies, he worked for Leonardo UK’s Electronics Division, QinetiQ (UAS Contracting Services) and in 2008, started as the Business Development Manager for AAI Corp., which subsequently became Textron Systems, predominantly covering the MEA regions.

In 2005 James established an independent consultancy, JMAS Advisory Services Ltd, where he directed the assessment and analysis of the global Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) market. Before that he spent eight years with the Shephard Press (now Shephard Media) where he began as a Staff Writer and finished his time there as the Editor of the Unmanned Vehicles Portfolio.

His direct association with UAS began in the 1980s when he was an Operations/Intelligence exponent. Most recently, over a six-month period in Mali, he worked within a team comprised of local security associates, United Nations members (MINUSMA) and corporate personnel to investigate, assess and recommend on-the-ground security and operational requirements for establishing a UAS forward operating base (FOB) in Timbuktu.
