The UK Government is extending its long-term commitment to the aerospace sector by guaranteeing funding for the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) to 2031, co-investing with industry in world-class research and development (R&D).

In a statement, the ATI said it welcomed the commitment in the Government’s Spending Review to guarantee the funding available to the Aerospace Technology Institute to 2031. Advanced technologies to deliver zero-carbon flight within a generation require long-term support and today’s announcement provides that assurance into the next decade. ATI will continue to work with the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy to identify the technology priorities and agree a level of funding that both matches the ambitions of the sector and secures a lead for the UK in this new era of aerospace.

ADS Chief Executive Kevin Craven said: “Today’s welcome commitment to extend Aerospace Technology Institute funding to 2031 recognises the need for long-term partnership to achieve our net zero goals and make the UK a global leader in green aerospace technology.

“Support for cutting edge aerospace innovation will sustain jobs, level up opportunities in every part of the country, and help to secure billions of pounds in industry investment.

“Our members will be looking for early clarity on an ATI funding level that matches industry ambitions here in the UK to deliver net zero aviation.”
