Glasgow Airport to take part in UK-wide industry safety week
A series of safety-themed staff training sessions and demonstrations will take place across Glasgow Airport this week as part of a UK-wide industry focus on safety. The calendar of events, ranging from rescue demonstrations to behind-the-scene tours, has been arranged as part of the inaugural Airport Operator Association’s (AOA) UK Airports Safety Week and is supported by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Glasgow Airport has held its own annual staff safety week in the terminal for a number of years but this is the first time the entire UK-wide airport operator industry has come together to promote staff and passenger well-being in the airport environment.
In a move away from the traditional format of hosting the safety week in a designated area, Glasgow Airport's 5,000-strong workforce will this year be able to visit and participate in more than 25 events across many parts of the campus on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 4pm.
Key events will include:
An airside operations tower and airfield tour
A Glasgow Airport Fire Service water rescue demonstration
Defibrillator demonstrations by the airport’s Duty Safety Team
Talk and tours of the airport’s control centre and integrated crisis room
Winter operation demonstrations
Driver training confidence sessions
NATS air traffic control safety management sessions
