Defence Minister Philip Dunne MP said: “AJAX is the British Army’s first fully-digitised fighting vehicle. The fuel tanks system will include the latest self-sealing and explosion suppressant technologies, helping to keep our troops safe. It is another example of the innovative engineering behind the British Army’s new AJAX vehicle, which also features the 40mm cannon, with a range of almost two miles.”

“Work on the AJAX programme is sustaining hundreds of jobs across the UK, including at Portsmouth. This £27 million contract demonstrates the tangible impact of our growing Defence budget and our £178 billion investment in the best possible equipment for our Armed Forces.”

Gavin Wesson, Senior Vice President of Special Products Group, commented: “This is a significant contract for GKN Aerospace’s fuel systems business on an important UK MoD programme. Our technological expertise will help to improve the safety of our troops as well as the vehicle performance in combat situations. We sincerely look forward to supporting the delivery of this impressive, next generation armoured vehicle.”
