G4S  announced that the wellbeing and education of the children in its care will remain its priority until such time as an orderly transition to a new operator has been completed.

G4S UK Children’s Services had revenues of approximately £40 million in the year to December 2015.

The transfer or sale of certain businesses is subject to customary consents and approvals.

G4S currently has contracts to operate three secure training centres in the UK: Medway STC in Kent, Oakhill near Milton Keynes and Rainsbrook in Northamptonshire.

The contract to manage Rainsbrook is currently being transferred to a new provider, MTC Novo, and is not part of the process announced today.

Secure training centres are responsible for detaining and training young people aged from 12 to 17 who meet the criteria for a custodial sentence, or who are remanded to custody.
