Farnborough International has signed a memorandum of understanding MoU with Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone and EU Project Innovation Centre (EUPIC) to develop the Sichuan International Airshow.

The MoU will see Farnborough International’s Airshows business providing consultancy services to create an aerospace trade exhibition and public airshow located in Chengdu in Western China.

With a specific focus on civil and commercial aerospace infrastructure, manufacturing, MRO and support services, the event will showcase COMAC, AVIC and Sichuan Airlines, Haite group, Sigma Components other state representatives’ supply chains to demonstrate how companies can become involved in the growing Chinese market.

Originally planned to take place in 2017, the proposition has evolved with the planned development of a new international airport in Chengdu. Due for completion in 2019, the Chengdu Tianfu International airport would make way for the Sichuan International Airshow to take place at the city’s new international airport. As such the show will now take place in September 2019.

Commenting during the One Belt One Sky conference at the Farnborough International Airshow, Commercial Director, Amanda Stainer, said: “The opportunity to host the Sichuan International Airshow in such a prime location in the heart Chengdu will make the event even more attractive for international participants.”

Mr Yonglin Fu, Deputy Mayor of Chengdu, added: “Chengdu is already an established aerospace hub. The Hi-Tech Zone and the Sichuan International Airshow will help put Chengdu as China’s aerospace capital. The Farnborough International Airshow has a reputation as a world class trade event and we are looking to working with the organisers to hosting our first show in 2019.”
