eLicensing becomes reality for commercial pilots

Commercial pilots can now apply for a licence online, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced. .

The new service is part of the CAA’s plans to update the personnel licensing system for the UK aviation industry, with private licence applications following next year.

Once registered with an account, pilots will be able to track the progress of their application, view the privileges they hold and have the ability to update personal details such as a change of address. E-Licensing will also benefit flight training schools, allowing them submit course completion details online and also apply on behalf of their students.

Commercial pilots will need to create an online account to access CAA licensing services, however, individuals are advised to wait until they need to make a transaction before setting up an account.

In addition to e-licensing, a new fast-track appointment booking service is also being introduced at the CAA’s Gatwick office from 11 December 2017, replacing the current same-day counter service. The new service will allow licence holders to book an appointment time-slot up to one month in advance.
