Edinburgh Airport has today announced February's passenger numbers showing 811,804 people passed through the airport last month, making it the busiest February ever at a Scottish airport.

This 5.4% increase, which includes a 13.6 % jump in international passengers, follows on from the recent confirmation that Edinburgh Airport is officially the UK’s fastest growing airport in terms of international passengers.

Welcoming February’s passenger figures Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport’s Chief Executive, said: “Once again our passenger numbers have broken a new record. This is further proof that the airport is continuing to service the growing demand for what is without doubt one of Europe’s leading cities.

“As we grow we deliver greater international connectivity for this city and for Scotland - and the benefits of our growth are felt well beyond this airport.

“The airport is engaged in the second stage of public consultation of an Airspace Change Programme which is focused on giving our neighbouring communities a say on how we grow while ensuring that we continue to support Scotland’s economy in a safe and effective way.

“And while our preferred options would reduce aircraft noise for 25,000 people - as with all major infrastructure expansion plans - we recognise that not everyone agrees with our proposals.

“I actively encourage everyone in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Falkirk and Fife to look at our proposals and give their feedback to the consultation.”

Edinburgh Airport has also welcomed new figures showing that it is officially the UK’s fastest growing airport in terms of international passengers.

The 21% growth in international passengers from 2015 - 2016 at Edinburgh pipped  Luton for top spot in the table of UK airports above one million international passengers.

This successful expansion has been reinforced by the fact Edinburgh Airport now, for the first time ever, has over 200 routes on sale.

Welcoming this Edinburgh Airport’s Chief Executive Gordon Dewar, said: “This expansion of routes in and out of Edinburgh Airport generates more growth for Scotland’s economy and creates work and leisure opportunities for people and businesses.

"Growth also continues to expand the opportunity for people from overseas to come and visit Scotland.

"We have a healthy equilibrium of inbound and outbound passengers with the most balanced mix of any UK airport outside London.

"The blend of increasing long haul routes, the enhanced choice to destinations across Europe and an unrivalled range of services to London and domestic locations has proved to be a winning combination.

"This growth reinforces the strength and appeal of Edinburgh as a destination and the global draw of Scotland, giving us greater confidence as we look to the future."
