David Laws appointed Chief Executive of LBA
David Laws has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), bringing with him 39 years of airport experience.
David (above) arrived at LBA as John Parkin retired from the role, having substantially developed the airport during the last 10 years.
David was previously Chief Executive of Newcastle Airport for 10 years. He began his career as a trainee fireman in April 1979 and went onto become fire officer and then the airport’s safety advisor.
David, who is also a well-known former referee, held a number of roles in airport operations before becoming commercial director responsible for the development of the airline and retail business. He was then appointed Chief Executive, overseeing major development of the terminal.
David Laws, Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “I am very pleased and excited to be joining Leeds Bradford Airport at such a crucial time for the airport’s growth and development.
“I have a real passion for airport development and am focused on delivering the very best customer journey possible. My ambition is to further improve, expand and develop the business in order for the airport to continually offer a wide range of services for leisure and business passengers.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team at LBA and all those involved including airlines, stakeholders and partners, to develop the next phase of the airport.”
The airport now operates to over 70 destinations in 25 countries and has grown passenger numbers by 6% over the last 12 months to 3.7 million passengers.
LBA is a major contributor to the economic development of the region and new investment is underway to improve and expand the operations.
John Parkin will continue as a non executive director.
