The 23-year-old joined the Dorset-based business after graduating with an integrated masters degree in computer forensics from the University of South Wales.

His new role will see him responsible for the development of services that include technical vulnerability assessments, digital forensics investigations and carrying out physical security audits.

C3IA Solutions, headquartered in Poole, is one of fewer than 20 companies certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

As well as working with government agencies, it has a commercial arm that protects businesses from the growing menace of cyber-attacks.
C3IA Solutions’ security director Matt Horan, said: “There is a real shortage of good people in our sector so recruitment is very important.

“James received top marks in his degree and has proven his skills and deserves the new role which is integral to our contiuing expansion in what is a fast-growing sector.

“In future there will be many opportunities for careers within the cyber security industry.”

James, originally from Cheltenham, said: “I had always had an interest in investigatory work and then I saw the computer forensics course, which seemed perfect.

“I hadn’t done anything technical before and so the degree course prepared me well for a career within cyber security.

“In terms of skills, while maths is useful for specialisms such as cryptography, the career is open to all, with many different roles available. It’s a quite a misunderstood field.

“At university I wrote a research paper on digital forensics for vehicle systems - which was some of the first work of its type in the UK – and I’ve also written several other papers.

“I was very lucky to join C3IA Solutions and I absolutely love it. The people are fantastic, really experienced and I was given responsibility right from the start.

“Because more companies are required to bring in cyber consultants to maintain their certifications, I am kept busy and am really enjoying the work.

“I would advise anyone looking for a career to consider something in this area. There are more and more course being set up.”
