Cobham apprentice Ben Ealey-Newman has been awarded the British Safety Council 'Young Health and Safety Champion of the Year' award at an event ceremony earlier this month at the Grosvenor House in London.

Ben was nominated for the award, which received entries from over 100 organisations worldwide and included a range of sectors.

The award demonstrates Ben's commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of his colleagues at Cobham during 2015 and recognises the important contribution to the workplace made by him.

Tom Garvey, VP of Cobham Antenna Systems congratulated Ben and said: "This award demonstrates the outstanding commitment made by Ben to help manage risks to people's health, safety and welfare in our workplace. This year's award by the British Safety Council is evidence of a great deal of individual effort made by Ben, who has gone the extra mile over and above his professional roles and responsibilities. I would like to both congratulate and thank him for these efforts, which play an extremely important part of everyone's lives."

Reflecting on the award, Ben said: "Winning this award is a great honour and I am really thankful to both Cobham and the British Safety Council for recognising my achievement. Health and Safety is such an important thing yet often it's taken for granted in the workplace. Spending a few minutes making sure the work areas are safe for me and my colleagues could go on to have a massive impact on someone's life, which is why I am so passionate about Health and Safety."

Ben aspires to fulfil a career working in the health, safety and environmental arena within Cobham.

Cobham has a long and successful history of training successive generations of apprentices. Over the years, we've built a strong internal support network, which is coupled with good links to local schools and colleges. Cobham apprentices have picked up many awards over the years, including Brathay National Apprenticeship Challenge Team of the Year, three Higher National Certificate (HNC) Awards in Dorset and multiple EEF Regional and National Apprentices of the Year.
