CILT to lead UK activities for European Supply Chain Day 2016

The event, now in its third year, is a unique opportunity to promote, celebrate and raise awareness of the logistics and supply chain profession across Britain and the continent.

As we continue to face increasing challenges in our ever-changing industry such as skills shortages, the driver shortage and an ageing workforce, in addition to the lack of recognition the logistics and supply chain profession receives, this is the ideal opportunity to celebrate and promote all things logistics and engage with our next generation.

European Supply Chain Day is always on the third Thursday in April and was initiated by German based BVL International with the support of various associations and organisations.

The motto for the day is ‘Logistics paves the way’. All companies and institutions active in the fields of logistics and supply chain management are encouraged to organise events: Companies may wish to host an open day, invite local dignitaries, the local press or visit local schools to promote the logistics profession. All events must be free of charge for visitors but assistance is available from CILT should registration be necessary.

Plans for this year’s European Supply Chain Day are now taking shape and this year’s event is set to bigger and better with events taking place up and down the UK as well as throughout Europe on Thursday 21st April. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is the primary contact for all events taking place here in the UK and is pleased to announce a programme of events including workshops, open days, lectures and seminars as well as online engagement including live Twitter Q&As with leading industry professionals.

Bill Acres FCILT will champion the day’s activities here in the UK. Bill has been an active member of the Institute for over 31 years and runs Acres & Acres Supply Chain Consulting Ltd, an independent consultancy operating in the supply chain sector.

Bill said: "I am thrilled to be involved with European Supply Chain Day for the second year in a row. This is a truly exciting opportunity for our profession and I look forward to working with business and individuals to ensure that we make some noise about and celebrate our profession."

Kevin Richardson FCILT, Chief Executive, CILT, said: "European Supply Chain Day is a great initiative for all to get involved with. This is the perfect platform for all those in our profession to showcase the great work we do as an industry and I encourage you all to participate."

European Supply Chain Day is a unique and exciting opportunity to raise awareness of the logistics and supply chain profession. Last year, over 38,500 participants visited more than 450 events in at least 20 different countries and this year is already shaping up to be bigger and better.

Organisations who have pledged their support for the day include: CEVA Logistics, City of Glasgow College, Novus Trust, Kuehne + Nagel, Gartner, XPO Logistics, DHL, John Lewis and many leading organisations in the logistics and supply chain profession.

Jim Hardisty, Managing Director, Goplasticpallets.com, said: "We decided to support European Supply Chain Day this year to help raise awareness of the logistics and supply chain profession, which in my opinion deserves a lot more recognition."

Nick Caesari, Managing Director, Fleet Source, said: "This is first time we have supported European Supply Chain Day by organising our own event and we are thrilled that the Corporation of City of London have partnered us to deliver this informative and interesting program. It will be a great opportunity to raise awareness of the logistics and supply chain profession. So with only 3 weeks to go until this unique event, make sure you register your place today."

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is the independent international professional body for individuals and companies associated with logistics and transport. It has over 33,000 members in over 31 countries worldwide.
