Chelton has opened its doors near the Surrey Hills, just outside of London, UK to focus on the development of advanced Ground Penetrating Radar, Vehicle Intercom Systems and LTE based Mission Critical PTT.

Redhill Aerodrome, UK: Chelton, a global provider of highly engineered robust electronics and antenna systems for mission critical applications in defence and security, has opened a new facility to support its life saving research and development (R&D), including IED detection and radio for public safety applications.

The Worshipful The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead Councillor Jill Bray, officially opened the facility at the inaugural ceremony along with representatives from humanitarian mine clearance charity The HALO Trust and UK Defence and Security Exports. Guests were treated to a VIP tour of the facility and later shared their inspirational experiences about the importance of the work they conduct with the help of Chelton and its product portfolio.

Speaking at the event, Lucy Reeve, Chief of Staff at The HALO Trust, said “The HALO trust has been working with Chelton for over 10 years, and the products you make here help to improve our lifesaving work. We have over 2000 staff clearing mines using Chelton technology, and in particular the Wirehound VR1 has been amazing for us”

The facility is home to our Ground Penetrating Radar design experts, whose critical design work embedded in both our AMULET stand-off mine and IED detection equipment, and Vallon’s latest generation of Minehound and Wirehound detectors, has saved countless lives over the past few decades.

Also at this facility, our Chelton development engineers are developing the world’s first application of LTE (4G/5G) for use in airborne public safety applications for the UK Home Office Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme, Aircraft Communications System (ESMCP ACS). Redhill Aerodrome is a fitting location given Chelton now boasts having both the National Police Aviation Support and Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance as its neighbours.

This facility will provide a dedicated, inspirational and purpose-built area for Chelton’s engineers and designers to continue innovating and enabling our customers’ ability to handle emerging threats. After all, our failsafe and pioneering technology in demanding environments is all driven by the people behind the products.
