Careers take off at Heathrow UTC
Heathrow UTC will be showcasing all the opportunities that it offers to help young people pursue careers in the aviation engineering sector at the 11th annual Heathrow jobs and careers fair on 29th-30th January at the Sofitel Hotel, Heathrow.
Heathrow UTC students aim high in everything they do and with the specialist support available to them from industry partners in the aviation sector, careers in the UK’s strongly performing aviation engineering industry are well within their grasp. The college offers young people the best preparation for the world of work while encouraging them to pursue careers that will challenge and inspire them.

Our students have the opportunity to study general engineering and, with the help of our industry partners, we offer them a unique pathway into employment that furnishes them with the academic and soft skills needed to enjoy successful and fulfilling careers.”
The UK’s aviation industry contributes an estimated £52 billion to the UK economy and exports goods and expertise to the value of £26 billion. It supports 3500 apprenticeships and £1.6billion is invested in research and development annually, making it a very desirable and innovative sector in which to work with global opportunities and a world-class reputation for excellence. Heathrow UTC’s partners recognise the growing need for young talent in the sector and are keen to help develop the next generation of well-educated, high-calibre, professional engineers and technicians.
The college’s aviation partners include Heathrow Airport, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and the Aviation Skills Partnership, as well as Brunel University, a leading university with an exceptional reputation for engineering. These partners play an important role in building the link between academic study and real-world projects, helping students see the practical applications of the engineering concepts that they are studying. They gain hands-on experience of engineering and teamwork, which puts them in a strong position to take up the many opportunities that the aviation industry offers. They also make links with organisations that offer apprenticeships and further study options, giving them a clear advantage when planning the next steps beyond school.
Students at Heathrow UTC combine National Curriculum study with technical and practical elements that translate directly into the skills needed to successfully enter the employment market. The college creates an environment that feels more like work than school, giving students the opportunity to develop workplace skills such as collaboration, project management and communication and preparing them for the transition to a rewarding career.
