Cardiff Airport is marking the start of the summer season today with the official unveiling of its latest improvements to the customer experience.

Following a busy 11 months of passenger growth, works have been continuing to enhance the terminal’s facilities. The latest project to be completed is a brand new bar and restaurant – ‘The Beer House’ – plus a completely transformed Caffè Ritazza, both located in the Departures area after security.

Developed in partnership with SSP, a leading operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, The Beer House has been designed to reflect the best of Welsh products and includes locally produced beers by Tiny Rebel and Brains, as well as new food items using Welsh ingredients. Caffè Ritazza is the perfect place to revive with great coffee, and perhaps a light bite to eat. The brand is inspired by cosmopolitan and multicultural European café culture. Both facilities have been introduced into Wales’ national airport so that business and leisure customers can choose how to re-fuel before they take off.

Cardiff Airport is expecting a busy summer of welcoming passengers through its doors to fly off for a getaway with family and friends. Airlines will be busy serving a wide choice of sunny destinations including Spain and the Canaries, Bulgaria, Malta, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Turkey.

Passengers seeking exotic, far-flung holidays can access more than 900 long haul destinations via seven hubs including Amsterdam, Barcelona and Dublin.

Debra Barber, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Cardiff Airport, said: “This latest development really reinforces what an exciting time it is for Cardiff Airport. As passenger growth continues we are continuing to work hard and improve the experience for our customers.

“Following the unveiling of the brand new walk-through Nuance tax and duty free store earlier this year, we’re now also offering a wider choice of food and beverage in modern, welcoming surroundings whilst adding a Welsh sense of place. The Beer House and Caffè Ritazza Ritazza are different in their offering but both complement each other very well, giving passengers choice and quality. The departures area has been transformed and we’re looking forward to a busy summer at Wales’ national airport!”

Commenting on the new opening Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK, said the new outlets will help Cardiff Airport achieve its aspirations to offer an even higher quality experience to its passengers. “Beer House and Ritazza are great brands that have real resonance with the travelling consumer. We have been working with the team here at Cardiff Airport since 2002, and we are delighted to be building on this long and successful relationship.”
