Cardiff Airport staff are Autism Champions

Now fully recognised as being ‘autism-aware’, the Airport Champions understand the additional challenges faced by those living with autism and related conditions and their families, especially when travelling, and are equipped to offer support in a number of different ways.

The Champions are based at the PRM desk within departures and are on hand 24 hours a day to ensure a smooth and stress-free passenger experience.

Cardiff-based charity Autism Puzzles has been a constant source of guidance and information for Cardiff Airport, delivering training sessions and resources to staff. They will be hosting an open day on the first floor of the main airport terminal today (April 19th) to promote Autism Awareness Month, celebrate Cardiff Airport’s achievements and offer advice to staff and passengers regarding the condition.

Resources will also be available at the Airport going forward including leaflets and wristbands, with dedicated Champions on hand to offer advice and support.

Debra Barber, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Cardiff Airport, said: “I am very proud of our new Autism Champions, the PRM team demonstrate the highest standards of customer service and work hard to help passengers with additional needs or reduced mobility on a daily basis.

“We appreciate that some aspects of the airport experience can be daunting for those living with autism and related conditions, so we are dedicated to continuing our partnership with Autism Puzzles and delivering the highest levels of customer service.”
