Cardiff Airport sees passenger increase
The rolling total number of passengers flying from Cardiff Airport (from October 2015- September 2016) now stands at 1,352,045, (+27%) securing an impressive 16 consecutive months of consistent growth.
Flybe’s Cardiff to London City route, launched due to the temporary closure of Wales’ Severn Tunnel, is a contributing factor to the increase in passenger numbers as the affordable and convenient route continues to connect passengers commuting between the two capital cities.
Spencer Birns, Commercial Director, Cardiff Airport, said: “We’ve experienced strong performance from our airlines with a mix of customers choosing both business and leisure destinations. September is an important month for us as the summer holidays come to an end and people are getting back to business.
“As the Cardiff to London City route continues to be a hit with passengers, we now expect our latest route to Berlin to help keep the momentum of our increase in passenger numbers as we expect this route to prove popular with both Welsh and German passengers. We continue to work closely with our airline partners to help develop new routes and more travel choices for our Welsh customers and for our overseas guests.”
The upcoming winter months will also see passengers hitting the slopes in Geneva, Chambery, Milan and Munich, popular destinations for those wanting to make the most of the winter period.
The upcoming winter season also sees the addition of glamorous destinations from Cardiff Airport with cruise flights to the Caribbean with P&O Cruises and Thomsom, and two departures with Thomson to Dubai.
