Cardiff Airport completes fourth UK Airports Safety Week
Cardiff Airport has wrapped up its fourth annual UK Airports Safety Week in partnership with the Airport Operators Association (AOA).
The airport-led initiative, which ran from 13th - 19th May this year, took place across 52 UK airports and aims to promote and demonstrate the importance of safety and security both on and off the airfield to customers, partners and the wider Airport team.
The national airport for Wales proudly supported the campaign again this year, and developed a comprehensive programme of activities and events over the week-long national campaign, highlighting different themes around safety and security.
In the terminal, team members and passengers were educated on CPR and defibrillation techniques and UK Border Force were present to inform the public on the issues of human trafficking and FGM.
Bristow Helicopters – The UK Search and Rescue team – flew in to meet the team and demonstrate the state of the art technology on board their impressive fleet and talked to staff about their vital work.
Our valued partners also took part. North Air hosted demonstrations and talks around safely handling fuel on the airfield; the Airport Fire Service offered tours of the Fire Station and its latest-technology firefighting appliances; British Airways Maintenance Centre hosted a tour of their impressive facility; Aeros kindly donated a 30 minute flying lesson and Cardiff Aviation provided a 60 minute flight simulation experience giving users a real-life turn at the controls of a Boeing 747.
Cardiff Airport’s ground-handling agent Swissport hugely supported the UK Airports Safety Week by hosting interactive aircraft dispatcher and pushback experiences throughout the week.
Cardiff Airport’s Director of Operations, Ceri Mashlan, officially launched the week’s events, and commented: “It is a pleasure to support the AOA’s UK Airports Safety Week for the fourth year in a row. The campaign has really established itself over the past few years and we were delighted to win the Best Campaign at the 2018 AOA Awards.
“Safety and security is our number one priority at Cardiff Airport and we are focused on building a strong safety culture. Each member of the team plays a key role in understanding and implementing measures that affect our delivery of safety and security.
“The week provides a brilliant opportunity to engage with the staff and customers through an interactive schedule that displays how much goes into running Cardiff Airport and keeping staff and passengers safe. Thank you to all of the staff, partners and passengers who made this week such a success.”
