BMT supporting WatSub's ISR entry
BMT Fleet Technology Ltd (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, is supporting this year's University of Waterloo Submarine Racing Team (WatSub) entry 'Bolt', in the International Submarines Race (ISR).
After entering its boat ‘Amy’ at the human powered European International Submarine (eISR) race event last year, the WatSub team are currently designing and building ‘Bolt’ which they plan to race at the human powered International Submarines Race (ISR), being held in Maryland, USA in June.
Jason Reid, Director Submarines at BMT Fleet Technology commented: “Both the ISR and the eISR provide an invaluable practical engineering learning experience for our next generation engineers. No other events allow students to race a submarine that they have designed and built themselves. BMT is delighted to be part of this, encouraging and supporting young people in their engineering pursuits.”
Part of the WatSub sponsorship includes access to BMT Fleet Technology’s engineers who are able to provide real life knowledge and experience in submarine design and the challenges associated with the design of underwater vessels. BMT Fleet Technology sees this as an enduring relationship with not only sponsorship for the submarine events, but also co-op placement offered to the WatSub team members.

With its support, we are able to work with experts in the field and gain valuable insight in all aspects of submarine design. With its funding, we will be able to put our submarine Bolt to the test in the International Submarine Races this June. We are very excited to work with BMT Fleet Technology to push our boundaries and make waves in the field of human-powered submarines."
The eISR is not new to BMT. Liz Whitrow, BMT Fleet Technology’s Program Service Manager, a Chartered Naval Architect, has been part of the eISR judging team headed up by Head Judge Vice Admiral Sir Robert Hill for the past three events.
