Babcock supports Apprenticeship Week

Babcock International is supporting Apprenticeship Week across the UK (4th-8th March), as the company gears up to recruit its 2019 intake across its marine sector.

With successful apprentice schemes already established across its main UK sites, Babcock offers an excellent gateway to working on some of the world’s most exciting and challenging engineering projects.

New recruits can pursue careers in areas such as project management, naval architecture, business and administration as they work across different parts of the business including defence, energy, commercial marine and technology.

A number of Babcock locations are currently looking for apprentices to join its workforce, including Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde, Rosyth, Devonport Royal Dockyard and Bristol’s Technology Hub.

Siobhan Wilson, a final year apprentice designer and STEM coordinator at Babcock Rosyth said: “While the apprenticeship has been a lot of hard work, I’ve really enjoyed it and felt supported along the way.

“I’ve had the opportunity to participate in some really unique projects such as working with naval architects on the incline trial for HMS Queen Elizabeth”.

“In my role as STEM coordinator I’ve also been raising awareness of engineering to younger children and I’ve found it to be an extremely rewarding experience.”

With technology at the heart of Babcock’s approach, the company continues to invest in the next generation of engineers to lead and drive innovation. Last year’s apprentices and graduates are now undergoing a well-rounded educational and practical development programme, learning directly from Babcock’s own experts on a wide range of innovative projects.

Jonathan Whitworth, Babcock’s HR Director for Marine and Technology said: “It’s important to celebrate and showcase the energy and drive that apprentices bring to Babcock which we hope will inspire others to join our long-established programmes. In fact many of our senior team started their Babcock careers as apprentices – so we really can provide the gateway to a progressive and rewarding vocation.

“We offer a wide range of apprenticeships which; support our customers, provide excellent prospects for the individual and importantly brings new ideas and innovation to our business.

“We look forward to welcoming new applicants this year who will continue to drive our business forward.”
