Defence Digital has announced the signing of a five year, £150 million Logistics Support Contract (LSC) with Babcock International Group, which considerably cuts costs for the Army, saving around £50 million on the previous contract and will deliver essential replacement parts to soldiers in a fraction of the time than previously expected.

The Battlefield and Tactical Communication Information Systems (BATCIS) team is responsible for the development, fielding and sustainment of a range of tactical communication and information systems.

This contract will support the Delivery Team with an intelligent logistic support solution that delivers cost effective and resilient support to the whole of the equipment portfolio it supports as part of the Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information Systems (LE TacCIS) Programme. The solution will deliver four critical services: inventory management, inventory modelling, information management and technical services.

The contract utilises existing and tested Defence solutions, protocols and systems to achieve efficiencies aligned to current Logistic strategies. It provides resilience to the whole of the Armed Forces for critical operations while exploiting the expertise within Babcock, who have designed this service based on their support service to the Royal Navy.

The award of this contract represents an important step for the Armed Forces transitioning from Bowman to MORPHEUS, which will better connect deployed forces to their commanders, give improved access to operational IT systems and simplify the user experience, as part of the LE TacCIS Programme. This move will also provide the functionality to avoid vendor lock-in and provide the platform with open competition.

Major General Jon Cole, the Senior Responsible Owner for LE TacCIS and the British Army's Chief Information Officer commented: “Well done to Babcock International Group for winning our support contract, I’d like to welcome them to the LE TacCIS team of partners. We look forward to working together to drive operational availability and to deliver financial efficiencies. This contract offers us cheaper core costs and reduces pass-through costs, delivering more efficient and effective processes across the critical TacCIS network.”
