Martin (above) joins from BAE Systems Applied Intelligence where he was head of Consulting. At Atkins he will head up the 1,000-strong ADS&T division whose clients include Airbus, Department for Education, HS2, Highways England and the Ministry of Defence.

Nick Roberts, Atkins’ UK and Europe CEO, said: “Martin’s professional life is firmly rooted in technology and consulting – both in Government and in the Security, Intelligence and Defence markets. His experience therefore resonates very well with much of what our ADS&T division specialises in.

“With Martin as part of the team, we’re in a fantastic position to move rapidly in anticipating the next big challenges facing our markets and developing brilliant ways to deliver for our clients.”

Martin explained: “I joined this organisation because I was impressed by its people, its achievements and its plans for the future. I am particularly excited by the potential for Atkins to be a leader at a time when the digital and physical worlds are converging.

“My priority will be to ensure that as a division we’re harnessing our advanced engineering, digital and cyber, business consulting, and project management skills, in order to help our clients to address the opportunities and threats of that new world.”

Following an early career in software engineering and systems architecture, Martin became a management consultant, working first with KPMG and then with specialist consultancy Avail (subsequently absorbed into Capita) before joining Detica (which was subsequently acquired by BAE Systems) in 2007.
