AEUK Inspires VEC students with trip to NASA
Five inspirational students are going for Gold with the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award, helped by Dorset Company Atlas Elektronik UK (AEUK), who have donated £2,000 towards their residential trip to NASA, USA.
Here they will undertake astronaut training and visit Kennedy Space Centre and Cape Canaveral.
The five young people from Victoria Education Centre for Disabled Young People will be pushing their personal boundaries on their journey towards a GOLD DofE award.They will be learning important skills and gaining new experiences through volunteering, physical, skills and expedition activities.
When Alison Dougle, a Physical Activity Assistant at the Victoria Education Centre, approached AEUK describing the huge logistical and financial challenges ahead of the students, who also require carers to go with them to ensure they are well looked after, the company had no hesitation in offering their financial support.
“The young people who attend Victoria Education Centre are an inspiration,” said John Sutcliffe, Head of Business Development, AEUK.` “Their incredible enthusiasm, energy and desire to succeed in what will be an enormous challenge, both in their individual fundraising efforts and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award itself is wonderful to witness.”
“We will work extremely hard to achieve this”, explained Alison, “and through the incredible generosity of ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK the £2,000 donated has already paid for one student to make the trip.”
