One year after its launch in January 2024, the UK Defence ESG Charter is truly in full swing. The UK defence industry’s first self-led and binding commitment towards monitoring and assessing its sustainability performance has now completed its first annual cycle.

Supported by Alix Partners, the efforts of the Charter this year have included webinars, workshops, outreach events, and a multi-month data collection phase where the signatories could submit data in up to 52 different economic and sustainability metrics for the last three years each. This wealth of data insights alongside extensive case studies has allowed us to compile a report which sets a baseline of the industry’s performance against a range of different environmental, social and governance commitments.

To celebrate this milestone moment, ADS is pleased to announce the UK Defence ESG Charter Annual Report launch event on 20 February 2025.

At the end of this event, there will also be an official signing ceremony for newly admitted Charter signatories who will begin collecting data for next year’s report. Following this, there will also be a networking reception to discuss with industry leaders, ESG supporting partners, as well as with political stakeholders about the opportunities of sustainable action within the defence industry.

The UK Defence ESG Charter has seven original signatories, who have supported ADS through data and case studies in the composition of this report. It has received support from the previous Government’s MinDP as well. The Charter itself has also been shortlisted for the 2025 Trade Association Forum Awards in the category: Environment, Social & Governance Initiative of the Year.
