This three-day event gathers the defence industry’s brightest minds from across Europe and beyond. Each year, the event rotates around venues in Western Europe.
Market Insight
The Norwegian Government has continued to prioritise the defence sector in its annual budget proposal, announcing plans to raise its military spending by an accumulated 600 billion kroner (US$ 56 billion) through 2036 to bolster its defence and other security challenges. Overall military spending for the next 12 years is expected to amount to 1.62 trillion kroner (US$ 151.2 billion). This demonstrates the Government’s commitment to increasing defence spending every year to meet the ambitions set out in the current Long-Term Plan.
Among several measures, the Long-Term Plan proposes a series of investments in capabilities of strategic importance that will focus on improving intelligence, situational awareness, survivability, and the striking power of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The Norwegian Government wishes to continue its substantial investments in new major equipment and infrastructure. Procurements of major equipment in 2023 are in line with the Long-Term Plan’s proposed defence structure. This includes new submarines, new maritime patrol aircraft, F-35 combat aircraft, and a new artillery system for the Army. In addition, the spending for ongoing projects, such as NH90 and AW101 helicopters and CV90 combat fighting vehicles, continues. There are plans to acquire some 30 new naval vessels of various types between now and 2040.
Norway has a long-standing track record of industrial co-operation with UK defence companies, and the UK and Norwegian Governments have an MoU covering co-operation in the areas of defence research, procurement, and exports.
