Romania’s official Defence Budget for 2022 stands at c.US$6bn, which represents a 11.9% real terms increase on the figure for 2021 and 2.5% of GDP, with plans for it to reach c.US$7.6bn in 2023. The recent increase in capital expenditure, which began in 2017 when the ambitious Defence Modernisation Plans were launched, has also persisted, with some US$2bn to be spent on procurement during 2022, with official projections indicating that it could reach c.US$3.25bn by 2025.
