Automation in Photonics – Heriot-Watt University

From gyroscopes, to radars and range finding equipment, a wide array of aerospace subsystems rely on photonic technologies. To date this is a sector that has proved resistant to automation due to the complexity, extreme precision, and skill required for accurate assembly and alignment. Dr Richard Carter, Academic Lead for High Value Photonic Manufacturing at the National Robotarium, will give an overview of some of the R&D projects at Heriot-Watt aimed to address these issues.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

  • Thursday 10 March - Driving forward Aerospace related research at the University of Glasgow
  • Thursday 17 March - Making Space Useful – University of Strathclyde
  • Thursday 24 March - Space science research and facility development in Earth Sciences - University of St Andrews
  • Thursday 31 March - Heriot-Watt University - details TBC
  • Thursday 07 April - Multi-fidelity, multi-agent modelling for future autonomous systems design: applications in defence - University of Glasgow
