Parliamentarians, industry representatives and apprentices from across the UK’s aerospace, defence, security and space sectors gathered in the House of Commons yesterday to celebrate and find out more about the 10,400 apprenticeships provided by companies in our world-class sectors.
Over 60 MPs met with more than 80 apprentices, including those from their local constituencies, at ADS’ annual parliamentary reception, which was sponsored by UTC Aerospace Systems. The reception provided an excellent platform to celebrate the achievements of apprentices in the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors.
Hosting the reception was Chris Matheson MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Aerospace. Addressing the room along with ADS’ Chief Executive, Paul Everitt, and Airbus UK and ADS President, Paul Kahn, they praised the valuable contribution apprentices make to UK manufacturing. UTC apprentice James Davies then took to the stage to talk about why he chose to pursue an apprenticeship and the rewards this exciting career path have brought him.
The reception also gave attendees a glimpse at the excitement to come at the Farnborough International Airshow (Monday 11 – Sunday 17 July). With Futures Day on the Friday giving young people the opportunity to experience the exciting careers provided by ADS’ sectors, impressive daily flying displays, and an extensive trade show showcasing the latest technology, it is clearly a very exciting time to be an apprentice!
